resampling is my best friend

Post by JJ on Wed Nov 10, 2010 10:00 am

I used to think keeping all my synths running off VST's was the way to go...

I have been bouncing them down to 2 split mono tracks, one combined mono downmix and one stereo track

it makes things HUGE!

so.. word to the mother, if you aren't bouncing diown, I'd give it a shot

it'll improve your overall synth sound

The double split mono/stereo thing is a good idea. I do it with drums (usually snares) sometimes a la the NY compression method, where you leave one clean, dupe it, mono it, distort the fuck out of it and turn it down a bit.

I haven't really thought much about using that method to make your synths big. It's a pretty good plan though.

But yeah, resampling is key. Get a good soundcard and bounce your shit down early and often if you want to make your sound more interesting (and save CPU cycles).

yeah

I have 16 channels of Virus offloaded to the onboard DSP chips so I never really had to bounce synths down, but I started doing this the other week and took it to the next level last night and man...

the results were amazing

Thick ass synths like the big boys

very pleased
