MIDI Controllers

Post by Soccer Mom on Sun Jul 04, 2010 9:47 pm

Im thinking about getting a Novation MKII. It's gonna be for live shit; I think I'm going with this board because I want the XY, the knobbys, pads, and the sliders all in the same board. Any thoughts, comments, hookups, etc?

Yeah, I'm going small since I want to gig with it. My current controller is an Axiom 25 so I'm kind of used to using the one octave, and Chi had some Novation controller when we were living at the compound, so I got pretty accustomed to the tiny Novation keys.

I wouldn't mind selling the Axiom once I get the USB power port on it fixed so I can get even more new gear. I'm going for a new Powerbook next, and then once I get a portable soundcard for gigs, it's on. WATCH OUT LORN HERE I COME.

Ableton Users
Ableton worked with Novation to update the SL Mk II, making it the only comprehensive Live controller with a keyboard. All Ableton's major controls are instantly assigned to SL Mk II's 56 knobs, faders and buttons. The changes mean that controlling session view, mixer and devices is quick and easy, because you'll never lose track of what you're controlling:

• Live's devices are already assigned to controls as you load them up. Open 'Auto Filter' and instantly see 'cutoff', 'res' etc, on the LCD screen above each knob, along with their current values (as well LED rings around each encoder).

• Comprehensive mixer control: Touch a fader to see the channel name and volume level on the large LCD screen, and the two buttons underneath will be lit up if the track is activated or record enabled.

• Launch scenes with the SL's buttons. You can also set up a row of 8 backlit buttons to launch clips (which light up if the clip is playing).
